I Don’t Want to Say Goodbye and Artificial Clouds<\/strong> will be part of the DOK CoPro Market selection, the meeting that generates partnerships between producers and documentary filmmakers seeking sponsorship, besides opening doors within the international market.<\/p>\n

As part of the Chilean delegation traveling to Germany this year, Carola Fuentes, Daniela Camino, Josefina Buschmann, Cristi\u00e1n Valle Celed\u00f3n, and Fernando Fuentes will attend, representing the production companies La Ventana Cine, Mimbre Films, Wolf Producciones, and Quijote Films.<\/em><\/p>\n

From October 8th to the 15th of 2023, a new edition of the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, more commonly known as DOK Leipzig, in which Chile will again attend, this time with the presence of four projects in different development stages. <\/p>\n

Considered the oldest documentary film festival in the world, DOK Leipzig offers a combination of various audiovisual disciplines to a broad audience. For two weeks, nearly 250 projects are presented, bringing together 42,000 visitors and 1,600 invitations to participate in different specialized platforms within the industry.<\/p>\n

From ProChile<\/strong>, which funds the attendance of the delegates, Ra\u00fal Vilches, Head of the Creative Economy Department, states that \u00abparticipation in DOK Leipzig strengthens the focus we have developed for promoting Chilean documentaries internationally<\/strong>; this complements the public and private efforts we undertake through the sector brand Chiledoc, yielding very significant results for the Chilean audiovisual industry.\u00bb<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Paula Ossand\u00f3n, director of Chiledoc<\/strong>, the brand that promotes Chilean documentaries worldwide and was responsible for organizing the delegation, states: \u00abDOK Leipzig provides special access to the European market. This year, with great pride, we can say that two Chilean projects stand out for their selection in this co-production market<\/strong>, and our country will be represented by four producers whose projects reflect the strength of national productions.\u00bb<\/p>\n

The Chilean production companies participating in this new edition of DOK Leipzig portray local characters in different contexts, where humanity and vulnerability are the main plot of these stories.<\/p>\n

La Ventana Cine<\/strong><\/p>\n

The documentary miniseries I Don’t Want to Say Goodbye<\/strong><\/em> portrays the story of a father and a mother seeking justice after the suicide of a 16-year-old girl. A farewell letter reveals clues of school cyberbullying and the guilty parties, who refuse to go to trial and blame the family for their daughter’s depression. In four episodes of approximately 1 hour each, Marcela Said directs this project, along the production of Carola Fuentes and Rafa Valdeavellano. <\/strong><\/p>\n

La Ventana Cine, in addition, will participate as part of the selection for the DOK CoPro Market.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mimbre Films<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Artificial Clouds<\/strong><\/em>, artificial intelligence roams among minerals and electronic ruins, searching for its earthly body. As it discovers the planetary scars generated by its existence, it asks, \u00abCan technological development exist without sacrificing ecologies and communities?\u00bb<\/p>\n

For the Mimbre Films’ producer, Daniela Camino<\/strong>, \u00abit is an honor to participate in a festival with a prominent artistic vision that takes place in a context that allows us to establish close relationships with the various decision-makers and producers involved.\u00bb<\/p>\n

From the production, they state, \u00abWe have high expectations for our participation in this co-production market, where we hope to find the necessary partners to produce Artificial Clouds.\u00bb<\/p>\n

\u00abFurthermore, Leipzig is a city with a rich cultural heritage that will undoubtedly be a strong source of inspiration for our participation in this festival,\u00bb concludes Daniela when referring to the documentary festival in Germany.<\/p>\n

This documentary is directed by Josefina Buschmann and produced by Daniela Camino, <\/strong>who have already participated in meetings such as the Sheffield Docs Fest Meet Market; Pitching Documental DocMontevideo 2023; Conecta, organized by the Chilean Corporation of Documentary; North Star fellowship, from Candem Film Festival, and AustraLab. <\/p>\n

Mimbre Films will also be part of the DOK CoPro Market meeting selection.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wolf Producciones<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cristian Valle Celed\u00f3n<\/strong> presents in his project Kaw\u00e9sqar Wa\u00e9s<\/strong>, four surviving families from the genocide of their indigenous people. <\/p>\n

The fight for the defense of the territory against the salmon farming industry, in which the Chilean State is complicit, serving as both judge and advocate, arises from their inseparable relationship with the sea.<\/p>\n

In words of the director and producer, Cristian states that for them, \u00abIt is essential to bring documentaries from the south of Chile made by those who live and cohabit the southern Austral territory.\u00bb<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Wolf production company also participated in the Kelluwun Residency at FIC WALLMAPU, SantiagoLab at SANFIC, MAPULAB at FIC WALLMAPU, and the DocumentaSUR Residency.<\/p>\n

Quijote Films<\/strong><\/p>\n

Quijote Films presents Texas Soul Sister<\/strong><\/em>. Directed by Pascala Lamche and produced by Emmanuelle Lepers and Didar Domehri<\/strong>.
\nThis co-production between France and Chile, portrays the story of Grace Halsell, the highest-ranking White House employee who, after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, takes radical action to challenge white supremacy from within. In 1968, she medically transforms her skin tone, becoming a black woman who immerses herself in the complex world of the Ku Klux Klan-controlled cities of Harlem and Mississippi.<\/p>\n

Fernando Fuentes, from Quijote Films, considers that \u00abattending DOK Leipzig is a logical step to start getting into how to make documentaries with a collaborative spirit.<\/strong> We are attending with a hybrid documentary project titled Texas Soul Sister, by director Pascale Lamche, co-produced with France, and which recently received funding from the Chilean Audiovisual Fund.\u00bb<\/p>\n

Under the lens of the international collaboration model, this documentary is \u00aba confluence of voices from France and Chile to tell a story about racism in the United States<\/strong>, which somehow finds its way to permeate our realities. We hope that in the market, we can continue to advance in this direction and strengthen the impact of Chilean cinema with all audiences,\u00bb Fuentes concludes.<\/p>\n
