● Saving Patagonia and Escazú Souls have been selected for Meet & Match, Sunny Side of the Doc’s new industry format designed to connect producers with potential international partners.
From June 23 – 26, La Rochelle, France, will host a new edition of Sunny Side of the Doc, one of the world’s leading international markets dedicated to documentary content for television and streaming platforms.
This year, Chile will be represented by Cábala Films and CUBHO Audiovisual, both selected for Meet & Match, the market’s new matchmaking format designed to facilitate tailored meetings between producers and international decision-makers, fostering opportunities for co-production, financing, distribution and international circulation.
Cábala Films to present Saving Patagonia
Chilean-Spanish production company Cábala Films will attend Sunny Side of the Doc with Saving Patagonia, a premium documentary series comprising four 26-minute episodes, directed by Roser Toll and currently in pre-production.
The series explores one of the planet’s most spectacular and least explored regions, following scientific expeditions led by researchers, conservationists and park rangers across glaciers, ancient forests, steppes and remote mountain ranges. From tracking elusive pumas to uncovering globally significant fossils, the project examines the forces that have shaped Patagonia over millions of years through cutting-edge science, immersive cinematography and high-risk expeditions.
Representing Cábala Films at Sunny Side of the Doc will be Executive Director Gonzalo Argandoña and Executive Producer Diego Rojas. Specialising in science, nature, environmental and social impact content, the company develops international co-productions between Europe and Latin America. Its productions have been commissioned and broadcast by platforms and broadcasters including Netflix, National Geographic, ARTE and France Télévisions, among others.
Cábala’s participation continues a sustained presence at Sunny Side of the Doc. In 2025, its project Unveiling the Cosmos was selected for the market’s Science Pitch.
“Participating in Sunny Side of the Doc is a key opportunity for Cábala Films, particularly at a moment of international growth marked by the upcoming release of Melodies of the Amazon and Unveiling the Cosmos, two documentaries co-produced with ARTE and other major international broadcasters. Having a project selected for Meet & Match also allows us to strengthen partnerships, secure strategic agreements and continue positioning globally relevant stories about science, nature and heritage from Latin America,” says Gonzalo Argandoña, Executive Director of Cábala Films.
CUBHO Audiovisual makes its Sunny Side of the Doc debut
CUBHO Audiovisual will participate in Sunny Side of the Doc for the first time with Escazú Souls, a six-part animated documentary series of 15-minute episodes directed by Nicholas Hooper and co-produced by CUBHO Audiovisual, Polygonal Factory, Forward Films and Leste across Chile, Spain and Brazil.
Currently producing its pilot episode, the series investigates the lives and suspicious deaths of six Latin American environmental activists. Through the voices of their families and loved ones, the project explores unresolved conflicts and ongoing struggles for justice in the territories they fought to protect.
The project has participated in a range of international development programmes and markets, including RIA – APA Lab, Conecta, Next Lab, Animadeba, Anima Spirit Inspirational Lab, When East Meets West and Annecy’s Animated Documentary Pitch 2026. It has also received support from Ibermedia Next and Chile’s Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage.
“As CUBHO, this is our first participation at Sunny Side of the Doc, and it comes at a crucial moment for Escazú Souls. After securing a key French co-production partnership at the recent Marché du Film in Cannes, our presence at this market is strategic for consolidating the international alliances that an ambitious Latin American animation project like this requires, just ahead of our official pitch at the Annecy Festival,” says Isidora Fajardo, Executive Producer at CUBHO Audiovisual.
Chile’s presence at Sunny Side of the Doc 2026 reflects the sustained internationalisation efforts undertaken by Chilean production companies in specialised markets, strengthening relationships with strategic partners and expanding opportunities for financing, co-production and international circulation for Chilean documentary projects.
