Chile and Costa Rica Seal Alliance to Boost Their Film Industries on the Global Stage

10 abril, 2026

A new door is opening for Latin American cinema. Chile and Costa Rica are moving forward with an audiovisual co-production agreement that promises to energize the creation, circulation, and international reach of their content.

On April 7, the Chilean Senate approved the treaty, designed to strengthen collaboration between production companies in both countries and to generate more joint works with global potential. The key: productions made under this framework will be recognized as “national” in both territories, allowing them to access funding, incentives, and benefits in each country.

More than a diplomatic gesture, this is a concrete tool for the industry. The agreement regulates the participation of co-producers, encourages the integration of technical and artistic teams, and facilitates the mobility of professionals and the use of equipment, reducing barriers to working together.

From Costa Rica, authorities have highlighted the strategic impact of the pact: it opens real opportunities for internationalization, positions the country as an active partner in global production, and enables new stories to travel beyond its borders.

This step is part of a broader cultural cooperation policy promoted by Chile, which already has multiple co-production agreements worldwide, understood as key tools for expanding its creative industries and strengthening its international presence.

With this new bridge between the Southern Cone and Central America, not only do funding and production opportunities expand—so does the map of stories, talents, and perspectives that can meet on screen. Because when industries connect, stories travel further.
