● For the third time, Chiledoc will take part in one of the world’s leading documentary conferences, with an agenda focused on strengthening relationships with the US documentary industry.
● «Getting Real is a unique personal and professional experience that explores the power of documentary filmmaking as a tool for social impact and change,» says filmmaker Lissette Orozco, who will take part in the panel By Our Own Standards: Transitional Justice.
● «There is real potential for our stories and the imagination of our territory to reach demanding markets such as the United States,» says Claudia León, who will attend on behalf of Chiledoc’s member production companies alongside Chiledoc Director Paula Ossandón.
From July 20 to 23, Chiledoc will participate in Getting Real, the conference organised by the International Documentary Association (IDA) in Los Angeles, California. As one of the conference’s sponsors, the organisation will participate in the official programme through a series of industry activities.
Getting Real brings together filmmakers, producers, organisations and other industry professionals to exchange ideas, discuss the key challenges facing documentary filmmaking and create new opportunities for collaboration. Its programme explores topics including international cooperation, funding models, distribution and the future of the documentary sector.
As part of its participation, Chiledoc will carry out a programme of activities aimed at strengthening and expanding its relationships with the US documentary industry, a strategic market known for its vibrant independent sector, extensive educational network and strong opportunities for international collaboration.
«The US audiovisual market is strategic not only because of its size, but also because it brings together a unique combination of funders, streaming platforms, foundations, distributors, sales agents, festivals, universities and impact organisations,» says Paula Ossandón, Director of Chiledoc.
Chiledoc will participate in the Industry Expo Lunch, where documentary organisations present their initiatives and connect with filmmakers, institutions and industry professionals.
Chiledoc is also part of the organising team behind Latino and Latin American Filmmakers Open Breakout: The Future Is Collective, alongside Latino Public Broadcasting and other partner organisations. The session will bring together documentary filmmakers from Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as Latin American filmmakers based in the United States, to discuss the opportunities and challenges of building a collaborative organisation focused on networking and collective action.
Producer Claudia León will attend as the representative of Chiledoc’s associated companies.
«I’m excited by the possibility that this exchange with the US independent documentary community will not only be an extraordinary source of inspiration, but also open the door to new funding and distribution models that will help us continue making our films,» she says.
León has also been invited to join the panel Stories We Do Not Tell, where she will share her experience as a producer working in Chile and Spain.
The Chilean presence at Getting Real will also include filmmaker Lissette Orozco, representing the collective Historias Desobedientes, who will join the panel By Our Own Standards: Transitional Justice.
