– 13 professional and 10 student shorts are part of the first web catalog www.chileshorts.com 8 of which are in the video library of the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival.

– The objective is to give them the greatest visibility in the most important international markets and festivals of the short film sector.

– Associations, foundations, film schools, audiovisual sector brands and ProChile have supported the initiative.

A new support program for the promotion of Chilean short films that began its white march at the Short Film Market 2019 in Clermont Ferrand, the largest market of this format in the world, resumes activities in 2021 with the publication of its first catalog of short films as part of its participation in the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival.

ChileShorts is an initiative of Fundación VIART, organizers of the Festival Cortos en Grande and El Día Más corto, in conjunction with the film schools of Universidad Mayor, Universidad del Desarrollo, Duoc UC, Academia de Cine La Toma, Instituto Arcos, Escuela de Cine y TV del Instituto de la Comunicación e Imagen ICEI and Prisma, the Prisma distributor of the Pontificia Universidad Católica.

After a successful public call for entries, the ChileShorts team selected 13 professional short films and 10 from film schools for the first edition of its web/catalog, which is now available at www.chileshorts.com so that national and international festival programmers, distributors and sales agents can have access to these unpublished productions and include them in their programming or sales catalogs.

Eight of these short films will also be in the Cannes Short Film Corner with a collection in its video library and more than 20 people from the short film world accredited in this section of the Cannes Film Festival. Among the works are new shorts by Tomás Alzamora (La Mentirita Blanca, Equeco), Mauricio Corco (Reo, Quijote Films), Hugo Covarrubias (La noche boca arriba, Maleza Films), Katherina Harder (Memorias del viento, Volcánica Films) and emerging filmmakers Ashley Salman, Javier Palacios, Benjamín Leiter and Catalina Donoso Astudillo.

The ChileShorts catalog is made up of fiction, documentary, animation and mixed media works of less than 30 minutes in genres as diverse as drama, science fiction, comedy, romance, black humor and even westerns. As for the themes, they represent the contingent issues of Chile and the world, such as human rights, environment, sexual diversity and feminism, migration and territory, old age, family, couples and childhood.

The objective of the catalog is to give greater visibility to national short films in the most important international markets and festivals of the short film sector, the directors of the short films will also receive advice on distribution and festival routes.

ChileShorts also has the support of CCDOC, Animachi and ProChile, organizers of the Chilean presence at Cannes 2021, as well as the brands Chiledoc, Cinemachile and Chilean Animation, with whom it will work in coordination to achieve common objectives and make Chilean short films travel the world.
