The sectoral brand, which promotes and represents the Chilean documentary in the foreign market since 2018, has managed to generate alliances and a great recognition outside the national territory. With a new team and the official website www.chiledoc.cl, which will be launched on 28 April, it sets out a path that has led it to become a fundamental tool for the national film industry.

The Chilean documentary industry finds itself living a very special moment, and not only for the historic nomination of The Mole Agent, by director Maite Alberdi, in the latest edition of the acclaimed Academy Awards.

The sectoral brand that promotes and represents the Chilean documentary in the foreign market since 2018, Chiledoc, is starting a new phase with the launch of its website www.chiledoc.cl, hoping to bring national creators closer to international industry players. This tool will come to «promote the sector as a collective, diverse and associative force, where all professionals are relevant and allow the Chilean documentary to advance. That’s the spirit in which we work on «says Paula Ossandón, new director of this sector brand born from the private-public alliance formed by ProChile and the Chilean Documentary Corporation CCDoc.

The site will be a showcase of national production before the international industry, since it will be possible to find the actors who are working within the sector, what are their projects, upcoming projects and premieres, what types of interests they have, what services they offer, in addition to the news related to the presence of the Chilean documentary abroad, its achievements and advances. Among the novelties on the website, there is a library of films and series, where the community can have access to a wide panorama of the productions being made in Chile, which is also replicated in its section dedicated to film premieres, short films, medium films, immersive or virtual reality series and projects. The site also contains information about the different companies that are behind the brand, supporting financially, and the markets in which Chiledoc and the Chilean delegations will be present throughout the year.

«The historic nomination of The Mole Agent for the Academy Awards, which has given us so much pride as a country, is not only the result of the professionalism of its production team, but also of the constant work of international promotion that this Chilean industry has been doing especially in the last decade, to be present in the main markets and festivals where the exponents of this genre are concentrated worldwide. ProChile has always been trying to support this and today, while facing health measures that prevent participation in on-site events, it is essential to have virtual tools, such as this new and complete website, to enable us to continue to position our documentary filmmakers globally. We want the success of The Mole Agent to be a real example for many professionals in this Chilean industry. With effort and work, we will achieve it, because everyone will have their promotion space through this Chiledoc platform, «says ProChile Director Jorge O`Ryan.

The work of Chiledoc has been fundamental since its creation, especially with regard to the positioning of different Chilean productions and filmmakers in the country and abroad. Today, in this new stage, the brand will look to give continuity to these achievements and continue to promote Chilean documentary cinema, this time with new energies and the hand of a new identity. «We hope that the brand and this virtual space can show the world all that diversity and quality we are talking about, the different points of view, talents and potentials that exist nationally. Therefore we invite all those who are working in documentaries in all types of formats, to contact us and send us their information to be able to incorporate it in this promotion tool», states Paula Ossandón.

Focus markets

The documentary in Chile has been in crescendo and with it also the participation of this sector in the audiovisual industry. Even during the year of the pandemic, Chiledoc supported the participation of national productions at virtual markets, understanding the new ways of doing industry. Currently, the sector brand works as a direct link between the national audiovisual and documentary market and the rest of the world, which is directly reflected in its current and future actions. For example, over the next two years, the focus will be on five countries. France, Colombia, Mexico, United States and China; through the presence at Marché du Film, Sunny Side of the Doc, Bogotá Audiovisual Market, FIC Guadalajara, the Getting Real meeting event of the International Association of Documentary Filmmakers in the United States and a market to be defined in China, a country with which Chiledoc has been trying to establish alliances for the Chilean documentary for a couple of years.

This horizon is well handled by Paula Ossandón, new director of the brand, along with the rest of the team that is composed by José Gil, as new general coordinator, and Gustavo Prado, financial assistant accountant, in conjunction with the executive and work team of ProChile and the Chilean Documentary Corporation CCDoc. «We are interested in highlighting the multiplicity of interests and styles that exist within the national production and promoting the high quality of this work. We want to position the Chilean documentary as a work with international trajectory and potential, selected and awarded in the markets and festivals of the world «says Ossandón. The journalist and specialist in documentary film, has a long career in the audiovisual industry, especially due to her work as director of communications of CCDoc, space that she led for more than seven years, contributing to the promotion, distribution, and development of marketing strategies and positioning for the distribution and marketing of documentary production in Chile.

Chiledoc is the sectoral brand of the Chilean documentary promoted by the public-private alliance between ProChile and the Chilean Documentary Corporation CCDoc.
