Erratics receives The Pop Up Film Residency 2022 award at Cannes Short Film Corner’s Focus COPRO’

2 junio, 2022

The Pop Up Film Residency award consists of an invitation for director Thomas Woodroffe to an artistic residence with a personalized tutoring program. The residence only invites one creative at a time, which means it will concentrate all of its efforts on Erratics’ specific needs.

The hybrid feature film tells a contemporary myth: after a long time traped in Patagonian glaciers, the cameraman Lucien Le Saint’s ghost is freed. Confused, he follows the same navigation route he took a century ago, stopping in places where he filmed Tierra del Fuego native peoples. In this journey, he meets new inhabitants from a technocratic society and the remains of an indigenous past.

The movie, directed by Thomas Woodroffe, produced by Rodrigo Díaz, Pascual Mena, and Jérôme Blesson, is Chilean-French coproduction, between Bloques Erráticos SpA and La Belle Affaire. The project has been supported by the “Occitanie Region grant for feature documentaries development” 2020, provided by the La Région Occitania/Pirineos-Mediterráneo’s Directio de la Culture et du Patrimoine, and the Audiovisual Development Fund’s Audiovisual Projects Support 2022. Besides, it was part of the Cinéma en développement, organized by Cinélatino-Rencontres de Toulouse, where it was awarded with the LE LOKAL prize.

In May 2022, part of the team traveled through Tierra del Fuego and Patagonia, investigating, strengthening bonds with local communities, and establishing strategic alliances, besides collecting footage for a new production teaser for 2023.
