– MeetMarket is the name of this event, which will be held through video conferences between June 8 and 10, 2020.

For the 15th edition of MeetMarket, more than 500 audiovisual projects applied, where 48 projects were chosen, of which three are Chilean: Imágenes a la deriva (Nicolás Tabilo and Felipe Garrido), El romper del ladrillo (Carola fuentes and Rafael Valdeavellano) and La casa aún está a oscuras (Felipe Roa Pilar and Thor Hampus Bank). In parallel, the Alternate Realities Talent Market chose Going Back Home VR (Catalina Alarcón, María Court and Daniela Camino) to be part of its 7th edition.

Even though, due to the contingency, Sheffield Doc|Fest had been canceled as a preventive measure, this new online version will allow documentary projects from 30 countries to have the possibility of expanding their exhibition windows, which in turn brings with it the opening of new marketing possibilities

Diego Pino, director of Chiledoc, the Chilean Documentary sectorial brand, is very emphatic about the relevance of participating in an event of this magnitude at this particular moment: “Sheffield is acknowledged as the third most important market worldwide, however, what makes it really special is the participation of four selected national documentaries in its official market activities. Regardless of the current situation, this will allow the projects to connect with major industry players in the Anglo-Saxon world, specifically in England, a country where the Chilean documentary has been gaining significant relevance due to the level of its productions. We believe it is an opportunity to connect with new audiences, not only English, but also European (let’s not forget the tribute to the Chilean documentary that will be made in France) and of course North American”.

Meanwhile, Felipe Garrido, producer of Imágenes a la deriva, emphasizes the value that markets and festivals abroad have for national projects: “It is very difficult to produce under normal conditions within this context, things are very complex for the cultural and artistic sector in Chile, therefore, we see this as a great opportunity to look out for partners in countries that have a more powerful network and / or public, cultural and artistic institution and where there is more safeguard. We see that, internationally, many festivals, markets and institutions are moving towards an online format, which is very beneficial with the level of technology that exists. For us, this last year has been one of preparation for precisely reaching instances such as the Sheffield market, in which I was already in 2018 and I know that it is very important for the quality of the guests. There are decision makers who can really make a difference in the project, so being part of it becomes imperative.”
