Synopsis

Documentary series composed of six episodes, which demonstrates how the culture of the Chango people, considered extinct until a few years ago, is still deeply rooted in many of the artisanal fishermen who inhabit the coastal territory of northern Chile.

  Carlos Cortés is a marine biologist and documentary director with a master’s degree in Documentary Film from the University of Chile. He has directed acclaimed documentaries and series such as «Chile… Mundos Sumergidos» and «Itata,» which have been broadcast on TV and digital platforms. His work is characterized by an intimate approach and the exploration of social and environmental issues. Raised on the northern coast of Chile, Carlos is deeply connected to the culture of the Changos, inspiring him to highlight marginalized cultures. His current project, «Descendants of the Sea,» aims to showcase the resilience and cultural richness of Chile’s ancestral peoples.

  Producer

  Paula Needham, a marine biologist and executive producer at Silvestre Producciones SpA, brings a strong scientific background and extensive experience in audiovisual production to various projects of the production company. With a rigorous and meticulous approach, Paula has overseen the development and production of several series and documentaries, including «Descendants of the Sea.» In this project, she ensures the accurate representation of the Chango culture and the artisanal fishermen of northern Chile’s coast. Her leadership ensures that each production is not only authentic but also emotionally resonates with its audience, underscoring her commitment to narrative and scientific integrity.
