Synopsis

Surfing for seniors is a choral story that follows retirees from Chile and Spain, in their daily life in front of technologies. A painter who looks for guys on Grindr to portray them naked; a tarot reader who tries to take her business to the digital world. A portrait of old age, loneliness and exclusion, but also of the search for new opportunities.

  Filmmaker from Universidad de Chile, interested in approaching film to explore the relationship between the internet and cinema. He was selected at the Talent Campus Buenos Aires, Bafici 2017. He specialized in editing, through a Master’s degree in Documentaries at the Superior School of Cinema and Audiovisuals of Catalonia (ESCAC), in Barcelona. He worked as a director on the short films Escaip (2012), Snap (2017) and Sombra Vertical (2022), that recently premiered worldwide at the Visions du Réel festival (Switzerland). He currently works as an editor focused on digital content, and “Surfing for Seniors” is his first documentary feature film.

  Francisca Barraza is a Content Director and Executive Producer at Funky Films with a portfolio of high-quality content and artistic value, including: «Pirópolis» (VdR-Work in Progress Award 2023) «A La Sombra de la Luz / In The Shadow of Light” (Official Competition First Feature Film Sheffield Doc 2023) “El Fantasma / No One” (Feature film to be released Nov. 2023, co-production between Chile, Argentina and Brazil with the support of: IBERMEDIA, INCAA, ANCINE) and “Hechiza” ( Feature film in development).
  She has participated as executive producer in the films «Mi Tierno Matador» (Amazon, Venice Film Festival, Busan), «Dry Martina» (Netflix, Tribeca, BAFICI), «Y Todo El Cielo Cabía En El Ojo De La Vaca Muerta» ( Best Short Film at Sundance, TIFF), to name a few. And as head of production in the MAFI.tv collective, the documentaries «Propaganda» (Visions du Réel) and «Beaverland» (FICValdivia, Sheffield).
