Synopsis

PIRÓPOLIS immerses us in the inflammable city-port of Valparaíso through the «Pompe France,» a precarious fire company with diplomatic ties to France. The Captain and his henchman welcome Baptista, a French firefighter who arrives to instruct on the fires caused by eucalyptus monocultures that surround and threaten the city. While a social crisis explodes, the company must deal with the fire of protests and embrace the inclusion of women in their traditional brotherhood. A documentary that witnesses the transformation of a society in a country divided by the flames of discontent.

  He’s a chilean documentary filmmaker. His two first films were released in Sheffield DocFest. Beaverland won Best Film Award in Valdivia while Flow won Best Documentary Award in SANFIC.

  She was born in France, and moved to Chile in 2013. In 2016 she co-founded the production company Pequén Producciones with Karin Cuyul. In 2019 they released Story of my name, in Rotterdam and received the Jury Special Mention.

  Francisca Barraza is Content Director and Executive Producer at Funky Films with a portfolio of high quality content and artistic value, like «A La Sombra de la Luz / In The Shadow of Light» Official Competition First Feature Sheffield Doc 2023) «El Fantasma / No One» (Feature to be released Nov. 2023, co-production between Chile, Argentina and Brazil with the support of: IBERMEDIA, INCAA, ANCINE) y «Hechiza» (Feature in development).

  She has participated as executive producer in the films «Mi Tierno Matador» (Amazon, Venice Film Festival, Busan), «Dry Martina» (Netflix, Tribeca, BAFICI), «Y Todo El Cielo Cabía En El Ojo De La Vaca Muerta» (Best Short Film at Sundance, TIFF), among others. And as head of production in the MAFI.tv collective, the documentaries «Propaganda» (Visions du Réel) and «Beaverland» (FICValdivia, Sheffield).
