Synopsis

In the midst of the Pinochet dictatorship, Carlos Cerda was the first judge to rule that forced disappearances were being carried out in Chile. He accepted appeals, prosecuted military personnel and refused to grant amnesty to state agents, which almost cost him his career and his life. After years of political vetoes, in 2014 he finally took office as Minister of the Supreme Court. A stubborn judge whose retirement came in 2018. With the social uprising, human rights violations emerged as nightmares from the past and failed constituent processes began. Today, since his independence, he reflects on that historic moment, on the current violations of essential rights and on the historic role of justice in Chile.
