Synopsis

In «The Boy Girl and the Gothik Whale», a young filmmaker, Sidka—the director of the film—dives into Buenos Aires’ underground drag scene through his lens. As he follows the unconventional drag artist Gothik Whale, he not only documents Gothik whale’s transformation from an underground sensation to international fame but also embarks on a personal journey of self-discovery, ultimately coming to understand his own identity as a transgender man.

  Director and producer

  Sidka Saavedra Vera is a trans man born in Santiago, Chile, in 1998, of Palestinian descent. He studied film directing in Buenos Aires at the Universidad del Cine. He has made significant contributions to the audiovisual field, with a particular interest in documentary filmmaking, music, and sound direction. He has participated in festivals such as BAFICI, SANFIC, VQFF, BQFF, and IDFAcademy – all in 2025.

  Producer

  Constanza Schmidt (Buenos Aires, 1999) is an Argentine audiovisual producer. She studied Production at Universidad del Cine (FUC) and is currently pursuing a Master’s at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Her work has screened at festivals such as BAFICI, SANFIC, Outfest Perú, and Beirut Shorts, and she served as jury at the Berlinale Co-Production Market’s Gen Z Award.
