Synopsis

Sonia and Myriam, Chilean singers, defied stereotypes, transcended borders and became bolero legends in Latin America. Today, previously unseen archive footage and the testimony of their closest family members and collaborators help us to discover their story.

    Director

    Benjamin Valencia Luengo holds a degree in Film from the Universidad de Valparaíso and a Diploma in Executive Audiovisual Production from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His experience has been related to roles in directing, production, and assistant directing. He completed his professional internship as a production assistant on the feature film The Wild Years by Andrés Nazarala. In the 26th edition of FIDOCS, he served as a young juror. In 2023, he undertook a film studies exchange at King’s College London (UK). He is currently developing his first documentary feature film about the Chilean musical duo Sonia y Myriam.

    Producer

    Nicolás Charlin is a Chilean filmmaker and producer with an emerging career in the audiovisual field. During his training, he directed the short films Ocean and Ataraxia in Buenos Aires. At the Universidad de Valparaíso, he worked as an assistant director on Humboldt (premiered at SANFIC 2024) and contributed to its post-production and distribution. Professionally, he has directed and produced three music videos and served as an executive production assistant on Dawn in America by Matías Rojas. He also worked on the broadcast of the Santiago 2024 Pan American Games, strengthening his experience in large-scale projects.

Awards and Official Selections

The documentary was selected for the Documenta Sur audiovisual laboratory, which lasted six months and included more than twelve consulting sessions with professionals from the Ibero-
American film industry, and also participated in the Work in Progress Foco Mujer of the Inedit Chile Festival, where it received the award for «consulting on licenses and music libraries» from the post-production house Atómica. Additionally, it was awarded the line of strengthening documentary feature films of the Chilean audiovisual fund of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage.
