Loreto, a newcomer from Chile, finds family photographs at a tram stop in Cologne. This reminds her of the possessions she left behind when leaving her homeland, triggering a personal journey on materiality and memories. This random experience connects her with other immigrants living in the NRW region, for example, Cafer (47), whose daughter lost a doll while crossing the border; Sarwar (61), who left all his books while fleeing Iraq; and Sonia (19), who fled Kyiv only with a backpack. As Loreto digs into objects and the memories they hold, numbed feelings emerge, bringing nostalgia and freedom.

Isolated on an island, an elderly woman embraces freedom by open-sea swimming with sea lions, while a champion swimmer tests her endurance in the world’s iciest of waters. Stunning cinematography captures their pristine but charged aquatic landscapes, which are both tender and brutal.
