Synopsis

Santiago, Chile, early 2020. As a popular uprising takes hold of the country, Carmen Castillo is at the bedside of her dying mother. Between the pain of loss and the joy of hope, one day the ghost of the child she once had and lost in exile appears in the street. She decides to confront the masks with which she has constructed her past.

  Carmen Castillo was born in 1945 in Chile. She was a militant of the Revolutionary Left Movement (MIR) and a history professor at the Catholic University. A year after the military coup of September 1973, her partner Miguel Enríquez, leader of the resistance and the MIR, was killed in a confrontation with the dictatorship’s intelligence services. Carmen, six months pregnant, seriously wounded, was taken prisoner and expelled. In exile in France, she has devoted herself to writing and documentary filmmaking. Among her films are «La flaca Alejandra» (1994), «El país de mi padre» (2004), «Calle Santa Fe» (2007, premiered at Cannes, Un certain regard, «Aún estamos vivos» (2015), «La embajada» (2019).

  Macarena Aguiló is director and producer at El Espino Films, Master in Film Studies at the Catholic University of Chile.
  She directed and co-wrote «El edificio de los chilenos» (Grand Prize FIDOCS 2010, Coral Havana 2010, Special Jury Prize FICCI 2011, Best Documentary NYLFF HBO 2011 among others). Producer of «Visión Nocturna» (2019), by Carolina Moscoso (Grand Prize FIDMarseille 2020, Excellence Award Yamagata IDFF 2021, Best Opera Prima Cinema Tropical 2021, among others), «Ciudad Jardín» by Javier Zoro, and «Memorias de un olvido» by Carmen Castillo (in co-production with Les Films d’Içi and the support of the Chilean Audiovisual Production Fund). He has collaborated in the production of the documentaries «Imagen Final» (2008) by Andrés Habegger and «La Embajada» (2019) by Carmen Castillo.
