Synopsis

In a delicate balance between the real and the supernatural, «Angelitas» unfolds as Libertad explores the stories of her grandmother and a ghost that has disturbed her family’s peace. Through field research and personal accounts, the film reveals the layers of violence and resilience that define the story of Angelita, a woman whose life and death reflect the struggles of many others in a world dominated by gender-based violence.

  Libertad is a filmmaker specializing in documentary, experimental cinema, archival work, and audiovisual accessibility, with studies in art, education, and Human Rights. As an autistic woman and a mother in a single-parent family with disabilities, she has focused her work on an inclusive perspective of Rights, Gender, and Neurodivergence, emphasizing diversity and the preservation of Memory.

  With 20 years of experience in directing, producing, cinematography, and post-production, she has created multiple acclaimed short and feature films, including Esto nos pasa (2006) and El Derecho bajo el sol (2024).

  Producer

  Nicole Bonilla is an executive producer, audiovisual creator, and cultural manager with a degree in Social Communication. Throughout her career, she has focused on projects that combine audiovisual language, innovation, collaborative work dynamics, and decentralization.

  As the founder of the production company La Madre, she has served as the executive producer of Travesía Travesti (Nicolás Videla), which premiered at IDFA in 2021, as well as the upcoming releases: Los niños sin tierra (René Ballesteros), Angelitas (Libertad S. Galli Lillo), Es como cantar feliz cumpleaños y no comer torta (Tania Paz), and Hola Ulises, soy Paulina (Paulina Soto).

Angelitas is the result of a development process that began in 2019 under the title La mujer de mi abuela.

2019: Screenwriting Seminar with Alejandro Legaspi during the 13th edition of Atlantidoc (Uruguay).
2020: Co-Production Market at DocMontevideo (Uruguay).
2021: Audiovisual Promotion Fund – Original Screenplay Development.
2023: Audiovisual Promotion Fund – Project Strengthening. As a result, the project evolved and adopted its new title, Angelitas.
